About
This book is a project I’ve wanted to complete for some time. As my kids are still relatively young, I still have a few more years before they will be ready for the material, I was in no particular rush to get it done. But that all changed in October of 2020 when my CFA level 3 exam was cancelled for the second time. I was used studying every night and weekend for the exam and decided to keep that same schedule, but shift my focus to developing a financial literacy curriculum for the kids. At the time there was also a pretty strict Corona Virus lockdown so I figured it was as good a time as any to dedicate myself to developing the materials.
My original thought was not to write a book, but as I progressed in writing the material I kept seeing more and more ways I could improve delivery of the content. So what started as a written framework of key concepts, ended up developing into a proper book. However, to be honest, if I knew how much work this was going to be, I probably would not have taken on the challenge. Writing a book is like having kids, you know it’s hard, but you can’t really grasp how much work it is until you actually do it.
About half way through writing the book I also decided to create the Youtube channel. As I kept thinking about ways to better deliver the content, I remembered a professor I had back in grad school that used to pre-record his lectures. It was so helpful being able to listen to him explain the information with the ability to pause and rewind where needed. And, the little extra nuggets you get through audio and visual communication that can’t be gleaned through text were always helpful. Similar to the book, I had no idea how much work developing the Youtube series was going to be, but looking back I am definitely glad I chose to do it.
The process of writing the book and making the Youtube series has been exciting, frustrating, enlightening, stressful, rewarding, and the list goes on. Finance is my passion and I hope this material helps people develop the financial skills essential for everyday life. I am still learning every day and although I have a pretty good grasp of personal finance, I am still very on my financial journey. For me, investing to build passive income is a long term goal and I still have so much to learn.
I hope this content helps you with your financial journey and as I continue my own pursuit of financial knowledge, I will also continue to share insights I gain through future materials.
