Book
Unfortunately, in the current school system there is a severe lack of financial education. As a father of two young children, I often struggle with how to teach my kids financial literacy. Everything from using a credit card to buying a house to saving for retirement, are decisions we’re required to tackle and I needed a way to consolidate the lessons I wanted to teach my kids in a thoughtful and organized manner. So, I decided to write this book.
My goal was to have something to give my kids, a play book so to speak, on how to tackle important financial decisions. The idea was not to be prescriptive and tell them what to do, but to give them the tools so they can make informed data driven decisions for themselves.
Although the original audience was intended as just my kids, as I progressed in writing the book I realized that the concepts and lessons I was trying to teach were not just crucial to my kids, but to everyone. So, I decided to publish the book and make the accompanying Youtube series.
Using my own experiences as a guide, I organized this book in order of how most people will encounter important financial milestones. The book is intended to prepare readers for the road ahead and act as a guide that readers can continually refer back to throughout their life.
The book covers the following 10 topics:
- Time Value of Money
- Compound Interest
- Credit Cards
- Purchasing a Car
- Choosing a Career
- Defined Contribution Plans
- Purchasing a House
- Kids
- Life Insurance
- Investing for Retirement
